The Associated General Contractors of America, the voice of the construction industry, is an organization of qualified construction contractors and industry-related companies dedicated to skill, integrity, and responsibility.
The association provides a full range of services satisfying the needs and concerns of its members, thereby improving the quality of construction and protecting the public interest.
Among the services we offer as an organization include:
Safety – We have a FT safety director who works with both GCs and subs on jobsites to help with safety issues and training, He offers regular classes throughout the year and AGC members get a reduced price.
Advocacy – We represent the collective voice of the commercial construction industry in places such as the Austin City Council, school districts, state legislature and other public entities.
Networking – We regularly offer networking/social events to help companies meet and establish business relationships.
Education – We offer classes to educate the local industry, whether in safety, project management or other aspects of construction.
Building Information – We produce a biweekly information Bulletin of local projects up for bid in the local area.
Insurance – We offer Workers Comp, and 401(k) Plan for contractors through our outside partners who provide those services.
Austin AGC, one of 95 chapters nationwide, has over 250 members consisting of general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and service firms. Nationally, AGC represents more than 33,000 firms, including 7,500 of America’s leading general contractors, and 12,000 specialty-contracting firms. Over 14,000 service providers and suppliers are also associated with AGC, through a nationwide network of chapters.
Membership in AGC begins at the local level. AGC has a nationwide network of chapters, each its own entity and offering a variety of services. When you join a local AGC Chapter, you become a member of the national organization. Being active at the local, state and national level is the best way to maximize your membership.
General Contractor Membership:
This membership category is for General Contractors whose principal line of work is building construction. For the first year of membership a $1150 initiation fee must accompany the membership application. For each year thereafter annual dues are calculated based on previous year's volume:
volume less than $1,000,000 the annual dues are $1,150
volume between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000 the annual dues are $1,900
volume between $5,000,000 and $25,000,000 the annual dues are $2,700
volume over $25,000,000 the annual dues are $4,500
Additionally, General Contractor members pay service fees (assessments) on each and every general construction prime contract and construction management contract awarded to them. The service fee is approximately 1/10 of 1% of the contract amount, and the maximum annual assessment amount (aggregate) is $50,000.
